*To qualify for the Homestead Exclusion the property must be your primary residence and that's it.  You do not need an application if you have already received the Homestead Reduction f you look at you'll from July you can see if it   last year  Is you look at your School tax bill from July 2009 you can see if it is there.  It is an automatic deduction on the bill you do not receive a separate check.

For the 2009-2010 School Tax year Springfield received $1,787,865.22.  We had 5414 property owners who each had $330.23 deducted from their School tax bill.  That amount changes from year to year depending on two things - 1) the amount of the pool of money allocated to Springfield and 2) the number of property owners who qualify.  Number 1 is divided by #2.  There is no difference for age, income, value of house, etc.  Everyone who qualifies gets the same amount of money deducted from their bill.
